Squidsoup's Submergence light installation at Mexico Visual Art Week

"'Submergence', work by the Squidsoup collective, will be the only indoor piece in all of the [Mexico City] 2015 VAW festival, envisioned for a closed space. Like the name of the piece suggests, 'Submergence' proposes the audience to be immersed, inviting to stroll through it, which in an interactive process produces changes in the intensity of the lights, colors and sound expressions. With a narrative path composed of 4 parts of approximately 5 minutes each, an abstract story slowly takes shape with great poetic weight and added to the mutations that the audience contributes with their movements. The transition through subtle atmospheres introduces us to a magical and unreal world. Beyond the multiple meanings the spectator can perceive in free interaction with 'Submergence', the experience is key in itself, the possibilities this piece offers to perceive and enjoy all the senses at once."

Cubepix: responsive low-fi cube pixel matrix installation

"The special projects division of Glassworks Barcelona–Xavi's Lab created Cubepix, a fully interactive and real–time projection mapping installation in their studio that combines very simple materials (cardboard) with quite sophisticated tech (projection mapping, pixel rotation, sync, etc). It has been conceived and developed entirely by their resident technologist Xavi Tribo. The prototype has been devised using a projector, a Microsoft Kinect, 8 Arduino boards, openFrameworks, 64 servo motors and 64 cardboard boxes."

Lexus Design Award 2014: designers stylishly reimagine the familiar

"The Lexus Design Award provides an opportunity for young innovators to showcase their works while receiving feedback from world renowned professionals in the area of design. Through this initiative, Lexus hopes to nurture and support world–enriching creators. 1,157 submissions were received during the application period from August 1 to October 15, 2013. After careful consideration by six judges, 12 winners have been selected."

Sinclair ZX81: semigraphical / pseudographical characters

"If you press GRAPHICS (shifted 9) then the cursor will come up as : this means graphics mode. If you type in a symbol it will appear in its inverse video form, & this will go on until you press GRAPHICS again or NEWLINE. RUBOUT will have its usual meaning. Be careful not to lose the cursor  amongst all the inverse video characters you've just typed in. ...

Right at the beginning are space & ten patterns of black, white & grey blobs; further on there are eleven more. These are called the graphics symbols & are used for drawing pictures. You can enter these from the keyboard, using graphics mode (except for space, which is an ordinary symbol using the  cursor; the black square is inverse space). You use the 20 keys that have graphics symbols written on them. For instance, suppose you want the symbol , which is on the T key. Press GRAPHICS to get the  cursor, & then press shifted T. From the previous description of the graphics mode, you would expect to get an inverse video symbol; but shifted T is normally <>, a token, & tokens have no inverses: so you get the graphics symbol  instead."

Liberty Hall building transformed into 50 metre, low resolution, TV screen

"From the 24th of September until the 11th of October 2009, the iconic Liberty Hall building in Dublin's city centre will be transformed into a giant 50 metre, low resolution, TV screen. Members of the public are invited to create animations with sound and music, via our website, and broadcast them across the city's skyline.

Powering the display are 100,000 low–energy LED lights, installed into 330 windows on the south and west faces of the building. These lights can illuminate each window as a solid colour turning it into a tiny pixel that's part of a giant display.

Playhouse Daft.ie were approached with the Playhouse idea late last year. They loved the idea and jumped on board as main sponsor and agreed to fund the project. The team was then pulled together through connections made at the Trinity Science Gallery. For nearly a year, the team have been busy creating some amazing technology and are looking forward to showcasing it to the public on the 24th of September.

Originally inspired by the Blinkenlights installation in Berlin, Playhouse raises the technological bar with the ability to produce colour animations along with sound and music (broadcast over FM radio within the vicinity of the building)."
