Hakanaï dance performance 2013

"Hakanaï is a solo choreographic performance that unfolds through a series of images in motion. In Japanese Hakanaï denotes that which is temporary and fragile, evanescent and transient, and in this case something set between dreams and reality. While widely associated with nature, the term is now often used to elicit an intangible aspect of the human condition and its precariousness. It encompasses two elements: that concerning the human being as well as that related to dreams. This symbolic relationship is the foundation of the dance composition in which a dancer gives life to a space somewhere between the borders of imagination and reality, through her interactions with the images she encounters. The images are on-stage animations that move in physical patterns according to the rhythm of the live sounds that they follow. The performance's outcome is the revelation of a digital installation to its audience."

Cubepix: responsive low-fi cube pixel matrix installation

"The special projects division of Glassworks Barcelona–Xavi's Lab created Cubepix, a fully interactive and real–time projection mapping installation in their studio that combines very simple materials (cardboard) with quite sophisticated tech (projection mapping, pixel rotation, sync, etc). It has been conceived and developed entirely by their resident technologist Xavi Tribo. The prototype has been devised using a projector, a Microsoft Kinect, 8 Arduino boards, openFrameworks, 64 servo motors and 64 cardboard boxes."

Bath-water video game touchscreen makes a splash

"The AquaTop Display projects an image onto a water-filled bath. Users dip their hands in to control a computer game. Hand movements are detected by a Microsoft Kinect camera. The data collected is then translated into instructions that control the game. The fountains are driven by playing a low sound through waterproofed speakers at the bottom of the bath. Users can interact with the display from above or below the water's surface."

Bot & Dolly and the Rise of Creative Robots

"This is Bot & Dolly, a boutique design studio that specializes in combining massive mechanical arms with custom software for movies, architecture, digital fabrication, and entertainment installations. 'We're a culture of makers, of creators with open minds,' says Tobias Kinnebrew, Bot & Dolly's director for product strategy. 'We work on things that don't seem possible and try to make them possible.'

One of Bot & Dolly's first clients, Google (GOOG), bought into that vision quite literally. In 2012 it commissioned Bot & Dolly to create an attention–grabbing experience to promote its Nexus Q media–streaming device at the Google I/O conference. Bot & Dolly built an 8–foot–across, 300–pound Nexus Q mounted on a robot arm that passersby controlled via several Nexus gadgets working in tandem. ...

Bot & Dolly was started four years ago by Jeff Linnell and Randy Stowell, as a side project at their video production company, Autofuss. (The cafe at the front of their building, called Front, is the pair's latest joint endeavor.) Still operating independently with around 20 full–timers, Bot & Dolly is best known for bringing weightlessness to the big screen for last year's Oscar–winning film Gravity."
