Japan Has Made The Human Pop Star Obsolete

"Meet Eguchi Aimi. She's the newest member of Japan's teen girl group, AKB48. Like the rest of her 47 band mates, she's the embodiment of the a tween pop idol. She's got a sugary voice, perfect hair, shiny skin, and an unrelenting desire to plug consumer products, namely Glico's Ice No Mi candy. She appeared in the June 13 issue of Shukan Playboy magazine, where she was described as the 'Ultimate Love Bomb.' Aimi's star was rising fast.

What makes her special is that she doesn't exist. Glico now admits that Aimi is actually a computer generated image created by mashing up the features of AKB48's other members.

The band and the candy company struggled to pass Aimi off as an actual organism, but some of the band's obsessive fans had raised suspicions when they noticed the uncanny resemblance to other members. Others noticed a somewhat eerie quality to her movements."

Viral parody 'My Box in a Box' hits the spot!

"What started as a 4–hour recording session and a YouTube viral video has landed Philadelphia–based Leah Kauffman (a.k.a. Bunny) a record deal with Rock Ridge Music. Kauffman is the voice behind the spoof song 'My Box in a Box.'
...
The video for the song has received over 8 million online views, and both Kauffman (and her alter ego video persona, played by a Philadelphia based Melissa Lamb) have made TV appearances about the song. 'My Box In A Box' has also gotten worldwide radio airplay. The song, a parody response to a 'Saturday Night Live' song performed by Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg, initially gained attention when it received over 1 million views in a single week. Following that, MSNBC made it the #1 story on their 'Countdown with Keith Olberman' twice in the same week, calling it "The Viralist Video.'"
(Bunny, 24 April 2007)

[The parody shows (again) just how uncomplicated YouTube audiences are.]
