Eighth International Conference on the Arts in Society, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary, 24–26 June 2013

"The purpose of the annual Arts Conference is to create an intellectual platform for the arts and arts practices, and to create an interdisciplinary conversation on the role of the arts in society. It is intended as a place for critical engagement, examination and experimentation of ideas that connect the arts to their contexts in the world–on stage, in studios and theaters, in classrooms, in museums and galleries, on the streets and in communities.

Its scope is deliberately broad and ambitious. Our times demand nothing less than cross–disciplinary and holistic approaches. The breadth of the Conference and its accompanying Journal, however, are without prejudice to finely grained discussion of the specific, the local and the grounded practices.

The Conference provides a venue and a framework for the arts and art practices that are situated within the context of international art expositions, festivals and biennials engaged with the international production of art and its global distribution networks. This Conference aims to discover what values, instincts and common ground may exist within the arts and their practices and sites of reception around the world. Your participation shapes the Conference itself.

We are inviting proposals for paper presentations, workshops/interactive sessions, posters/exhibits, or colloquia (See Proposal Types). Virtual participation is available for those who are unable to attend the conference in person. UK GLAD Conference 2013: Start, sustain, succeed - art and design education in the new policy landscape

"The Group for Learning in Art and Design (GLAD) will be holding their 2013 annual conference on 24 April 2013 and is calling for case studies and research papers that explore three areas that are likely to change the future of English art and design higher education.

1. Starting. Changes to the school art and design curriculum and how the new English Baccalaureate and the demands it places on school timetables might crowd out of the curriculum offer in the arts. How we might engage to redress this? Speaker/s from the school sector.

2. Sustaining. How we should evolve our working with students to support their learning and to address the data–led climate for student choice? Speaker/s from institutions that have improved their student experience data and are engaging with students in innovative ways.

3. Succeeding. What are institutions doing to support employability? Case studies from graduates highlighting what was useful to them in securing employment, plus speaker/s from creative careers professionals.

We are looking for responses to these questions and themes, with contributors offering the conference presentations/papers/discussions typically of 20 minutes duration."

HiBROW: a collection of videos for arts enthusiasts

"The British based film–maker Don Boyd, HiBROW's founder, has gathered a wide range of established professionals in the international arts industries, to be called Curators to create content exclusively for HiBROW. Three years of research and development has resulted in the successful production of over 80 hours of professionally produced High Definition video. HiBROW's content will be refreshed every month, and is radically different to current broadcast television and other online content. Available free, it is professionally produced, contemporary and original. With unique access our teams have captured behind–the–scenes rehearsals, work in progress and interviews. HiBROW has relationships with some of the world's great arts institutions and is building new ones with those who want to use our platform to expose larger audiences to their work. These embrace a very broad range of international artistic talent including Vasily Petrenko, Russia's young conductor, Dominic Hill, artistic director of Glasgow's Citizens Theatre, Newton Aduaka, Nigeria's young film director, Raf Bonachela, Spain's great choreographer, Gavin Turk, the British artist, Margaret Attwood, Canada's great novelist, and Britain's great spy author John Le Carré. Their contributions have allowed HiBROW to fashion intimate films of entire performances of new plays, concerts, exhibitions, and literary events all of which have subsequently received glowing critical reviews."
