Hamburg International Short Film Festival

"Since its foundation 28 years ago, the Hamburg International Short Film Festival has been celebrating short films as an independent art form, while offering an opportunity for film makers from all over the world to get in touch with an eager audience and with each other. The International Competition mirrors current global aesthetic tendencies and narrative structures. Façade Projection: 555 KUBIK

"The conception of this project consistently derives from its underlying architecture – the theoretic conception and visual pattern of the Hamburg Kunsthalle. The Basic idea of narration was to dissolve and break through the strict architecture of O. M. Ungers 'Galerie der Gegenwart'.

Resultant permeabilty of the solid facade uncovers different interpretations of conception, geometry and aesthetics expressed through graphics and movement. A situation of reflexivity evolves – describing the constitution and spacious perception of this location by means of the building itself."

classifying according to context and relation

"Warburg always moved the books and re–classified them according to his personal assumptions and spontaneous ideas, for the significance of every book depended on its context within the library, its neighbourhood on the shelf. In this respect, the entire library was moving most of the time during its setting up in Hamburg."
(Mathias Bruhn)

[Warburg's impulses follow the logic of the hypertext – where multiple intersecting sequences are able to reside.]

Social inclusion and exclusion

"Restructuring the inner city space according to the requirements of economic and administrative planning already proved to be an urban planning problem field with wide ranging sociocultural implications in the 70s. The structural change of the inner cities from living space to shopping and experience space developed a dynamic at this time, as endeavors were undertaken to at least partially bring the more prosperous classes from the suburban periphery back to the inner city area by clustering retail industry and trade. The transformation of the inner city to an entrepreneurially conceptioned "City" thus initiated resulted in new ways of using and appropriating public space."
(Timo Meisel and Wanda Wieczorek)
